Linking community and technology to enable FAIR data
Research Data warehouse
The Research Data Warehouse is powered by the DISQOVER system and functions as index on all data that is stored in DataHub. It can be used to search across your own data, but also (meta)data of others.
The idea is based on the FAIR principles, where all metadata is Findable, but only data for which you are authorized is Accessible.
Interesting data sets that are not accessible by you, do contain a Contacts with information on the data uploader / owner.
Before you start!
In order to use the DataHub infrastructure, make sure that you are connected to the UM- or MUMC-network. Either physically or via VPN.
Step 1 - Open the portal
Point your browser to https://mdr.datahubmaastricht.nl/
Use the menu on the right side to login with your UM- or MUMC+ credentials.
Step 2 - Open DISQOVER
After logging in, you should be able to click the Reuse data - DISQOVER item in the menu at the left side.
Use the green Open DISQOVER button to access the system.
Step 3 - Login to DISQOVER
If you are already logged in to a Single Sign On services like webmail or intranet, you can skip this step.
Otherwise, you are presented with a SURFconext login screen. Use your Maastricht University or academisch Ziekenhuis Maastricht credentials to login.
Step 4 - Search for metadata
In DISQOVER, you can either search on free text, or use one of the categories displayed on the front page to start your search path.
Step 4a - Browse metadata by category
Click on the category called Collections
In the resulting screen, you can filter the results list further by using the facets on the left or the free-text search boxes indicated by the various search lens icons.
Step 4b - Search on free text
Enter a search term in the "I am looking for ..." box
Here we used the search term "Christmas".
Click on the Collections category to open the metadata for a collection related to your search term.
On the resulting page, metadata is displayed for this collection. You might need to click the collection on the left for all the details to unfold.
Step 5 - Access the data set belonging to this metadata result
Click on the Data files link on the metadata card. This is the persistent identifier (from the handle.net system) for this data set.
This redirects you to the persistent landing page for the data set. When your authorisation level is sufficient, you'll see a clickable Browse files via Access data - Projects link.
To use this link and access the actual data set, you'll need a sufficient authorization level.
Trying to access a dataset that is not shared with you, will result in a fail message.
You can always contact the person responsible for this dataset to either get access or start a collaboration.
Step 6 - Download the data
You're now back in the ProjectCollection browser, where you can download the data files in this collection.
More information on the ProjectCollection browser and the various downloading methods can be found on the User manual: Methods for retrieving data guide.
