Working with collection metadata

When uploading data to DataHub a metadata form is filled in to be stored with your data. If there are, for example, new insights, personnel changes or a paper about the data is published, it can be necessary to update the original metadata.

Viewing metadata

You can view the metadata by taking the following steps:

  1. Point your browser to https://mdr.datahubmaastricht.nl (you need to be logged in).
  2. Go to the landing page of the collection or to the collection details page.
  3. The landing page will display all available metadata for a collection.
  4. The top of the page will show version information, showing who edited the version you are looking at and what versions are available.
  5. The P-C-handle will always link to the latest versions, e.g. https://hdl.handle.net/21.T12996/P000000001C000000216.
  6. The P-C-handle with a dot version will link to a specific version, e.g. https://hdl.handle.net/21.T12996/P000000001C000000216.4.

Editing metadata

You can edit metadata by taking the following steps:

  1. Point your browser to https://mdr.datahubmaastricht.nl (you need to be logged in).
  2. Go to the landing page of the collection or to the collection details page.
  3. If you have the proper authorization, an edit metadata button will be available.

If the button is not visible, contact your data steward to check if the setting can be enabled for your project.

Each time the metadata is edited, it is added to the version history. The user who performed the edit is also saved in the version history.
The available metadata schemas will evolve over time. A new version of the general schema could be added by DataHub or a domain specific metadata schema can be added/updated that is more relevant for your data. It is possible to change the schema for your collection by clicking the edit schema button on top.
