How to get started using the DataHub services
You are looking for instructions on how to use the DataHub services. You have probably already worked out a use case for your group. Starting a project at DataHub needs some personal customization for each use case. During an intake meeting with one of our data stewards we will works towards finding the perfect match between your use case and the services we can offer. If you haven't spoken with one of our data stewards, please contact us.

Before you start!
In order to use the DataHub infrastructure, make sure that you are connected to the UM- or MUMC-network. Either physically or via VPN.
Getting started
You can start uploading project data, browsing data or (re)using data by taking the following steps:
1. Check your account and projects
Your UM- or MUMC-account has been activated for usage of the DataHub services by one of our data stewards. You may already have been added to your relevant project. The first step is to check this.
- Login to the DataHub RDM portal (use the menu on the left side of the page).
- Click on Preserve data → Drop zones.
- Create a new Drop zone using the green button.
- Check in the first dropdown whether your project is listed there.
- If your project is listed, you're ready to upload your data (step 2).
If not, follow the Create a project guide.
2. Uploading project data
Uploading project data to DataHub starts by creating a Drop zone. This is a special network directory, only personally accessible by you, where you can put data from a specific investigation together. After you have put your data in the drop zone, you can add metadata and start the ingest operation to store the data in DataHub.
- Login to the DataHub RDM portal (use the menu on the left side of the page).
- Click on Preserve data → Drop zones.
Follow the Uploading new data via Drop Zones guide.
3. Searching and reusing data
The DISQOVER system can be used find your or your colleagues' data sets based on the metadata entered at time of ingestion. Follow the research data warehouse (DISQOVER) guide for step by step instructions.
4. Browsing and retrieving data
There are two methods for retrieving data.
- Using the Project-Collection browser on the DataHub website.
- Using one of the Direct download methods.
Both methods are explained step by step in the methods for retrieving data guide.
